Founded in 2016, The Sunflower Market started with a simple idea: create a space that feels like home, where shopping is fun, personal, and full of heart. What began as a small dream has grown into a one-of-a-kind shopping experience, proudly known as Kansas City’s first permanent t-shirt bar.

But the roots of The Sunflower Market go a little deeper.

After the sudden loss of my mom in 2014, I found myself searching for a way to navigate that kind of heartbreak. What started as a way to cope turned into something beautiful—I began crafting with my two oldest children, just like I used to do with my mom. It became our therapy, our way of healing, and our way of holding onto her.

Those small moments of creating together slowly turned into selling… and before we knew it, The Sunflower Market was born.

Around here, we do things a little differently. You don’t just grab a shirt off the rack—you get to pick your design, pick your tee, and we press it right in front of you while you wait. With hundreds of designs and a wide range of colors, every piece is made just for you.

But we’re more than just tees.

The Sunflower Market is a place that celebrates creativity, community, and small business. We partner with makers and vendors from all over, giving them a space to share their products both in-store and online—so there’s always something new to discover. From cozy crewnecks to thoughtful gifts, everything we carry is chosen with intention and a whole lot of love.

And of course, we couldn’t build this place without honoring where it all began.

Lu’s Clearance Corner lives right inside our shop, in memory of my mom—the kind of woman who never met a clearance rack she didn’t love. It’s our little way of keeping her spirit close and sharing a smile with anyone who appreciates a good deal.
